Fear of Rejection

Daily writing prompt
What’s a fear you’ve overcome — and how did you do it?

When I was younger I had a deep fear of rejection. I’m not sure how it developed through out of my childhood, but I guess it is from never truly fitting in with my peers. By high school I had a smaller friend group than most and never really ventured out to have fun outside of school hours. I was too afraid to do many things my peers were doing, I never asked them to let me join like parties, outings to the mall, or just hanging out at friends houses that were not in my neighborhood. Girls terrified me as well. Asking my crushes out scared me so much I rarely tried. In ways I didn’t know at the time I was self isolating myself due to my fear of rejection.

I guess how I overcame that fear was moving away from my family. I had no excuse to not go out and try new things. In college I was surrounded by some good friends that I felt like I could trust even when I was in a new and not so familiar place. A good support system is extremely important. I was afraid of building this blog to the rejection I could face from writing about controversial and heated topics, but I support system is strong and I have gotten some good reviews and needed criticism about my writing.
